Latitude at the 6th IABR
Today is the last day to visit the sixth edition of the International Architecture Biennale of Rotterdam URBAN BY NATURE. The curator Dirk Sijmons called for concrete projects that reflect on a major urban issue of our time, that is when “city and nature overlap spatially and impact each other functionally”.
Revising the Can Tho Master Plan, a project by RUA, WIT Architects and LATITUDE commissioned by the ministry of Construction of Vietnam (MoC) is a critical review of the 2006 Masterplan of Can Tho: the goal was to face its new role in the region as first rank city and climate change responsive city with respect to the predicted impacts of climate change. As the central city of the Mekong region, Can Tho will need an improved accessibility, a clear articulation of the programmed centralities, a controlled growth and a consistent identity in relation to its original landscape. Can Tho will have to promote the co-existence of urban and rural conditions and their interplay. The proposed Masterplan is composed by a series of strategic projects complemented by urban design guidelines in order provide a dynamic but concrete tool for the city.
